Since 1988, the Novato Youth Center has provided a wide range of mental health counseling services designed to strengthen the lives of individuals, youth and families in our community.
We offer services at our main facility, at the Novato Wellness Center and in local schools. Our professional counselors guide individuals, youth and families to overcome:
- Problems at school or work
- Relationship challenges and family conflicts
- Parenting challenges
- Grief and loss
- Issues related to self esteem
- Unmanageable anxiety and stress
- Depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, social phobias, ADHD
- Image and identity issues
- Trauma resulting from immigration
- Physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse, and domestic violence
- Drug and alcohol abuse/dependence

Counseling Services are available in English and Spanish, provided by licensed Marriage & Family Therapists. We also have master’s level MFT Interns/Trainees who work under the direct supervision of licensed clinical supervisors. The program is managed by our Clinical Director, Kathy Langsam, MFT, who holds a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from John F. Kennedy University. She has previous experience directing youth counseling programs and also serves as Adjunct Faculty at Golden
Gate University and University of San Francisco.

- FAMILY COUNSELING AND EDUCATION
For individuals, couples, and families facing stressful life situations
- REFERRALS FOR SOCIAL SERVICES AND MEDICATION MANAGEMENT
- PARENT-CHILD INTERACTION AND ATTUNEMENT THERAPY (PCIT/PCAT)
Children ages 0-7 & their parents/caregivers
A treatment program designed to help both parents and children; works to improve the quality of the parent-child relationship and to teach parents the necessary skills for effectively managing children's behavior. This program is coordinated by a licensed therapist who has been trained and certified through UC Davis Children’s Hospital.

PARENTS RAISING SAFE AND HEALTHY KIDS
Parents and Caregivers of Children ages 6-18
Helps parents keep their children safe and learn how to manage and prevent serious behavior problems.
TEENS COPING WITH STRESS
Teens ages 14-18
Proven model to help youth manage multiple pressures (academic, social, family, etc), reduce anxiety and depression, and develop healthy coping mechanisms.
ANGER MANAGEMENT GROUP
Children ages 6-12
Assists youth ages 6-12 years old experiencing difficulty in the appropriate expression of anger.
- OUR HOPE COUNSELING PROGRAM (NUESTRA ESPERANZA)
School-Based Mental Health Services for Elementary, Middle and High School students within the Novato Unified School District
Students are coached in developing healthy coping mechanisms, improving relationships with peers and adults, and in choosing positive alternatives to substance use and abuse. Includes one-on-one and group counseling and involves consultation with teachers, administrators and parents. Runs September through June, by appointment through each school site.

Reduced fees are available and we also accept Medi-Cal, Victims of Crime, and Cal Kids. To pre-qualify for MediCal, please call (415) 473-3068 and request services through the Novato Youth Center.
