1966: The dream for a safe haven for Novato’s youth began and for ten years community volunteers
worked on fundraising and construction to make this dream a reality.
1976: This grassroots organization opened as the Novato Boys Club and served 250 youth.
1983: Renamed to the Novato Youth Center, launched the first licensed School-Age Childcare Program
in Marin County.
1988: Launched Youth and Family Counseling Program.
1990: Facility expanded from to 14,000 to 23,000 square feet; community outreach began
1996: Infant, Toddler, and Preschool Programs launched
1999: Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program launched
2003: Parent Project Program launched
2004: Novato School Readiness Program launched
2006: 30th anniversary; Novato Wellness Center opened
2007: Parent-Child Interaction Therapy Program launched
2009: Health Education launched; Promotores Program launched
2010: Three-year Strategic Plan and new Mission Statement announced; Novato Blue Ribbon Coalition
for Youth, fiscal sponsor
2011: Novato Youth Center 35th anniversary; Novato Wellness Center 5th anniversary; 1-Up-4 College
Middle School Program launched; Healthy Novato Project, fiscal sponsor
2012: It’s all Elementary! Afterschool/Summer Program launched
2013: Launched new three-year strategic plan
2015: Developing new 3-year strategic plan

Today the agency will serve 2,982+ youth and their families. The Novato Youth Center has grown 250% in the last 10 years alone.
